What to Expect When We Paint Your Cabinets

When you're painting cabinets, the foundation is very important. Here’s an overview of the preparation techniques followed by the professionals at Your Cabinet Painter.

• Cover and protect all surfaces
• Remove all hardware
• Label all doors and drawers
• Remove all doors and drawers
• Sand all surfaces
• Wipe all surfaces with a de-glossing agent
• Apply one coat of bonding primer
• Apply one coat of primer (needed only if wood is an open grain like oak or cabinets have a dark stain)
• Sand between primer coat applications

We clean, buff, and de-gloss the cabinets with an exceptional cleaner. This separates the previous finish from the cabinets and creates the optimal surface for our priming technique. For the best results, two primer coats should be applied, but if your cabinets are dark they may also require a stain-blocking primer coat.

Spray Painting Produces a Long-Lasting Finish

The next stage is to paint your cabinets with a great inside trim product. We use an oil-altered acrylic paint that dries rapidly and cures with a strong, smooth finish. Spraying all the door and drawer fronts enables us to get a near-factory finish.

We utilize an HVLP sprayer specifically for trim that gives the best finish. The door and drawer covers are finished on-site or in one of our shops. Finally, the door and drawer covers are reattached. The result is an extraordinary transformation that will last for years to come!
